The Mechew & Co. Dispatch

Hello

The Mechew & Co. Dispatch - Postcards from Aotearoa

Welcome to our little corner of the internet. This is where we (Mercedes, Matthew, and feline foreign correspondent Isabela) publish monthly postcards from Aotearoa (New Zealand). Part update, part field report; think of it as a family newspaper delivered exclusively to the people we love most. Though we're beginning this chapter on the other side of the world, we hope these postcards help make the distance feel a little smaller. We're glad you're here and hope you'll keep in touch.

About us:

Mercedes (aka Meche) Editor-at-Large and Senior Correspondent for Community Affairs | Mercedes is pursuing a Master's in Social and Community Leadership at the University of Auckland and can frequently be found researching questions of leadership, social innovation, community development, and where to find the city's best coffee and bakeries.

Matthew (aka Matt) Managing Editor and Senior Correspondent for Daily Operations | Matthew continues to support clients at Shafae Law, bringing estate plans to life while working California hours from Auckland. He ensures the household remains operational and thoroughly evaluates open mic nights, walking routes, and public transit options.

Isabela (aka Pishoo) Foreign Correspondent for Feline Affairs | Isabela specializes in apartment inspections, sunbeam acquisition, and reporting on matters of grave importance, including Auckland's veterinary care, meal schedules, patio-related developments.

Why New Zealand?

Long before we met, New Zealand held a special place for each of us. After discovering our shared affection for the country, we spent holidays here, visited family, and eventually celebrated our honeymoon here as well. Over time, our appreciation for Aotearoa's natural beauty, commitment to sustainability, and bicultural foundations only grew. We don't know exactly what this chapter will bring, but we knew we wanted to experience it together.

Why Now?

Over the past several years, we've built a life we love, established careers, put down roots in San Francisco, and celebrated our marriage with family and friends. After getting married, we worked to create an opportunity that combines graduate study, remote work, and life abroad. With the love and support of our community, it feels like the right moment for a thoughtful leap into the unknown.
